World-renowned musician to play unique concert at St Paul’s Church
MUSICIAN Ben Arthur’s John Mayer-esque hooks and looks have won him fans across the world – and a cult following in Birmingham.
Now, to mark the release of his fifth album, the American singer-songwriter will be playing a one-off acoustic gig at the city’s St Paul’s Church on Thursday May 12.
Paul Spicer, Director of Wednesbury-based LNP Sound, and Brian Careless, from Birmingham-based band Hoodoo Fifties, have organised the event. The duo thought it was about time the resident New Yorker returned to the West Midlands.
As a result, the duo has arranged a unique gig at Birmingham’s St Paul’s Church, in the heart of St Paul’s Square, as part of Ben Arthur’s 10-date UK tour.
“Ben has not been to Birmingham for nearly two years now. We thought this would be a fitting gig for him during his tour as the venue would fit his haunting lyrics and fantastic voice,” said Paul Spicer.
“He has gained a bit of a cult following in the Birmingham area, and we wanted to put on a show with a difference rather than in the normal pubs and clubs,” added Paul.
Ben’s music is a melodic mix of folk, indie and blues.
Released this year, Ben’s 5th album, Roadkill, is a collection of live songs recorded during a decade of shows across Northern America and Europe.
Along the way he’s supported Tori Amos, performed on radio and television, and found time to write a novel.
At the St Paul’s gig, Ben will be supported by Birmingham band, The Hoodoo Fifties, as well as Kristy Gallagher. Doors open at 8pm, and entry is £4 on the night, or £3 in advance.
