Windermere Wild Swim
The very first Windermere Wild Swim is set to attract hundreds of visitors to a Lakeland beauty spot.
Wild swimming is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, with its economic appeal, and ability to capture the imagination of even the most committed of gym-bunnies.
Windermere Wild Swim has a particular attraction to newcomers to the sport, due to the organisation of the event, with reassuring aspects such as canoe safety, speedboat safety and exemplary and bespoke onsite first-aiders. However, sign-ons have seen a broad spectrum of ability and there are even entries from previous team GB and elite athletes, such is the appeal of Windermere.
Brockhole, the Lake District Visitors Centre was chosen as the venue for the event by organisers of Windermere Wild Swim for its accessibility, parking, facilities and of course the Lakeland scenery.
Chloe Booth of Adventure Challenge Solutions said: “Brockhole is a not-for-profit attraction run by the Lake District National Park Authority, and we’re very keen to use venues such as this for our events – particularly as this year is the 60th anniversary of the Lake District National Park. Almost all of our team live and work within the park, and we’re therefore very keen to support the local economy and responsible tourism.”
Windermere Wild Swim is working in partnership with the Nurture Lakeland project, ‘Love your Lakes’ – aimed at improving water quality in Windermere by helping small businesses, residents and visitors to take small steps to keep Windermere clean. The Love your Lakes team will be onsite at Brockhole on the day with hints and tips about what can be done to improve swimming conditions in the lake for years to come.
Windermere Wild Swim takes place on 3rd September 2011 at Brockhole, The Lake District Visitors Centre. For more information, email chloe@acs-events.co.uk or call 07825 201657 or go to www.acs-events.co.uk and click on ‘events’ then Windermere Wild Swim.
