Welsh watering hole for designer revamp
One of Cardiff’s most famous pubs is undergoing a major refurbishment.
The Queen’s Vaults in Westgate Street, renowned for its pre and post match atmosphere and Millennium Stadium Event hospitality, has recently been earmarked for refurbishment. Owner, Jon Bassett of JW Bassett Pubs and Bars, he has placed task in the highly innovative hands of the award-nominated local designer, Tim Rice.
Rice was recently nominated for a national award for his work in another South Wales pub and is currently appealing to customers of bygone days to get in touch should they have any old photo’s of relatives or friends at The Queens Vaults, which he will transform into framed pieces of nostalgia on the walls of pub.
The Queen's Vault was the first JW Bassett pub to be opened in 2003 and having traded heavily over the last 7 years has been selected for refurbishment.
Jon Bassett, Managing Director of JW Bassett Group, claims The Queen's Vaults is one of the only traditional pubs left in Cardiff. He commented: “Our aim, and the key to our success, is simply to provide always what our local customers want at a price that they can afford, with the facilities and level of comfort that they are entitled to expect.
"The Queen’s Vaults was my first outlet and is the Group's flagship pub but it needed a freshen-up to add a little bit more. I approached Tim as I have been impressed with his radical ideas and highly innovative approach."
Jon, once himself a top performing and award winning retailer-licensee in the Bass Group, was featured in the recent Western Mail ‘Hot 100’ Welsh Business Publication and has expanded his pub holding to seven outlets across South Wales and into England.
