Tri Windermere 2011

Tri Windermere 2011 kicked off the summer with some of the best weather that has been seen so far in Lakeland this year.

The comparison to last year’s torrential rain made for a welcome change for triathletes, who enjoyed an almost Mediterranean Windermere at water temperatures of a balmy 180C.

Some incredible times were seen with Christine Johnson taking the women’s lead and astonishing the crowd with her fantastic performance, a superb 2.37.12

Steven Garner and Daniel Hockley had a spectator pleasing battle to 1st place, Garner finishing first with a brilliant time of 2.27.39 and  Hockley just seconds behind.

Over 200 athletes signed up to the event, with 169 actual participants, some pulling out due to the heat and others due to injury.

Comments heard about Tri Windermere have included the accolade ‘stonking race’ and a more reserved ‘I’ll be back next year for sure!’.
