Travelodge expansion good news for the luxury hotel market.
Local hotelier Anthony Lloyd of Fallowfields Country House Hotel & Restaurant in Southmoor says that he is delighted to hear of Travelodge's plans to open more hotels this year.
Perhaps surprisingly, he believes this is also good news for the luxury and boutique hotel market. "When I used to travel with business", explains Anthony, "I wanted somewhere clean and comfortable to sleep. I might not arrive there until late at night and would be leaving early in the morning, so any frills and luxuries that the hotel included weren't of any interest to me."
"Travelodge obviously recognise this and have built their offering and service based on exactly what their clientele want - a clean and comfortable room, somewhere to plug in their laptop and mobile 'phone and a price that makes their rooms attractive to a company's accounts department!"
But will the expanding budget market harm Anthony's business? "Quite the opposite. People stay with us when they want to relax, when they want to forget about work for a few days and when they have time to really enjoy decent food and surroundings. Some of our clients may well stay in the budget and corporate hotels during the week when their time is limited and their budget set by their company. We are here for when they want to escape that and treat themselves".
"Travelodge have listened hard to their customers over the years and deliver exactly what their customers need - which is surprisingly rare for a business and really should be applauded. In our own little way, we are doing the same".
