Third Generation Family-Run Cleaning Firm Celebrate 28th Birthday

A family run Black Country cleaning business of three generations is celebrating its 28th anniversary today (28th July).

Founded in 1983, Lawrence Cleaning Ltd started off with just six employees. Now, the company employs 90 staff , who are deployed across the West Midlands to carry out cleaning contracts.

The company, which was based in Wolverhampton for 27 years, has recently moved to new offices in Sedgley.

Winnie Lawrence, founder of Lawrence Cleaning Ltd, started out as a cleaner at 14, and purchased the company when her boss died. Now, aged 73, Winnie still works for the company as a Contracts Manager.

“We are a traditional family-run business of three generations, with a modern outlook. The business has grown considerably since it was first set up by Winnie 28 years ago. I believe the key to our success is that we offer a high quality of service. We have retained some of our clients for over 26 years,” said Debra Lawrence, company Director.

Doing the majority of the work herself, Winnie recruited around six staff at first, mainly working for banks and accountants.

Through referrals, Winnie started to grow the business and recruit new staff. She still looks after the company’s longest serving clients of 26 years, chartered accountants, Muras Baker Jones.
