The West Mids. Karate Kids

Five youngsters from a school in Walsall are celebrating, having just earned their black belts in Karate.

The pupils, aged 10 and 11, from Hydesville Tower School achieved the impressive feat after five dedicated years of training. Starting out at their school, the pupils then moved on to advanced classes at the University of Wolverhampton Campus, where they faced a challenging, eight-hour assessment, before finding out they had been successful.

Karate tutor Paul Cicarella, who taught the pupils at Hydesville and at the University of Wolverhampton, praised the hardworking youngsters for their success at such a young age:

“The standard of people going for the black belt is high this year. They did really well, especially for their age, as most don’t make it that far.”

The pupils’ Headteacher, Mrs Fiona Hims expressed how proud she was of the children’s achievement, adding:

“This is an immense achievement for the children and a result of a group of friends having fun and encouraging each other. We give all our pupils the chance to take part in a wide range of extra curricular activities, there really is something for everyone to embrace and enjoy – who knows where it will lead?”
