TEN-YEAR-OLD TEEING OFF FOR LOCAL CHARITY
A local schoolboy is hoping to show off his golfing skills, when he takes part in a charity event to raise money for a local hospice.
Ben O’Conner, aged 10, from Sedgley in the West Midlands, will be the youngest competitor at the Patshull Park Mid Summer Golf Classic event, which is being held to raise money for Wolverhampton’s Compton Hospice.
Ben has already raised £400 for the hospice, and his efforts have even seen him giving a talk at his school assembly, at Straits Primary in Dudley, where he asked every pupil to donate just 10p to the cause, raising over £80.
Now, as a thank you for his efforts, and to encourage his golfing talents, Patshull Park Hotel, Golf & Country Club has given Ben a junior membership to the club for the year.
Patshull Park General Manager Stephen Kimbell, said: “Never did we envisage when setting up this event with Compton Hospice that a young golfer would work so hard to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause. We can only encourage youngsters like Ben to enjoy the game of golf. His fundraising efforts are outstanding and to be applauded.”
Ben will be joined by up to 250 other golfers, including his father Mark, for the golfing extravaganza on June 21st. The cost to enter is £30 per pair, for the betterball, and stableford events.
There are some fantastic prizes on offer for the top five pairs, the pair nearest the pin, as well as those who manage the longest drive. These prizes include Titleist 909 D2 Custom Fit Drivers for the winning pair, plus Footjoy Shoes, Titleist Cart Bags, amongst others.
Patshull Park has opened up almost every tee time on the day, and hopes to raise at least £2,000 from the event.
Sales & Marketing Manager John Prior is encouraging potential competitors to enter now as places are booking fast:
“Our aim is to fill the tee sheet with 250 competitors. We have already filled 70% of these and expect the remainder to be taken up over the next couple of weeks,” John said.
To book your tee time, please call Patshull Park on 01902 700100.
