Telecomms firm nominated for its silver service
THE company behind an innovative solution which makes it easier for developers to install telephone and broadband services in retirement homes has been nominated for a major industry award.
XL Networks was named a finalist in the 2010 Comms National awards for its SilverCall product which is already being used in more than 80 retirement developments across the UK.
The unique system - which can be retro-fitted or installed in new developments - provides telephone and broadband services using the warden call alarm system found in retirement blocks.
XL Networks commercial director Stewart Smith said: “It is great news to be recognised on a national level for one of our key products. Our close working partnerships with developers, managers and alarm monitoring centres has been key to SilverCall’s success.”
Managing director Neil Evans added: “As well as designing and implementing the SilverCall solution we work closely with social alarm monitoring centres to ensure the safest possible ongoing support for retirement residents. We provide 24/7 engineering support for all of our developments and monitoring centre customers ensuring that we can support these life critical applications at all times.”
XL Networks, based in Cardiff, said SilverCall was the only dedicated telephone and broadband service to the retirement industry which provided an integrated, 'one-stop shop' solution.
The cost-saving piece of kit has been welcomed by developers, with the likes of McCarthy and Stone, Churchill Retirement, David Wilson Retirement and Audley Retirement investing in the product.

The Comms National Awards take place in London on October 14th.
