Swift build for Bollington Nursery

Swift build for Bollington Nursery

As any avid fan of Grand Designs can tell you, modern, bespoke buildings do not go up quickly or without hitches.

The TV seasons seem to roll away while Kevin McCloud delivers dire warnings on how far the building has deviated from schedule and, correspondingly, budget.

However, one Cheshire building firm is providing that modern design, eco credentials and cutting edge technology in the kind of timescale that many builders take to construct a conservatory.

Aptly named Swift recently built a bespoke 300 square metre nursery building in little more than two months from first footings to launch party. What's more they did it in the midst of some of the worst winter weather on record, beginning in November 2010 and handing over the keys in January 2011.

The speedy delivery was in part due to the "SIP" building system where customised sections of the structure are pre-prepared in specialist factory conditions. They are then transported to site where they can quickly fixed into place. Strengthening steels and internal walls are all woven into a system that produces a highly insulated, robust and efficient modern building.

To compliment its thermal efficiency, eco-friendly air-sourced heat pumps give efficient heating in winter and cooling in the warmer months. The building was finally clad in Western Red Cedar to compliment the setting.

Wyn Evans of Bayon Architectural Services Ltd, Macclesfield said: “When Swift began on site the merits of the SIP system became evident. When combined with the Swift team, the speed of construction was something I had not previously experienced as past work involved traditional masonry construction.

“The end product exceeded everyone expectations and the nursery met its completion date deadline and received its completion certificate from the local authority.
