Students learn to dress to impress in the workplace
Year 10 students at Long Close School in Slough learned about workplace dress codes during a ‘Skills for Life’ session run by East Berkshire Education Business Partnership (EBeBP).
The session, which was part of the students’ work experience placement programme, raised awareness of the clothing people need to wear in the workplace and how this varies across different industries.
The pupils had to complete several learning activities during the morning and gained valuable knowledge about various types of clothing needed for different workplace environments. This included a health and safety talk and a “Dress to Impress” task.
The group was split into three groups and given a job description. The pupils then had to dress a mannequin with suitable clothing for that specific work setting.
Ian Powell, Year 10 form teacher and head of geography said: “The choices made by the pupils were spot on and they even managed to include vital accessories! In addition, the pupils were given a range of workplace scenarios and shown how to resolve problems correctly.”
EBeBP also arranged for the Diversity Action Recruitment Team from the British Army, led by Warrant Officer Ashok Kumar Chauhan MBE, to talk to the pupils and give them insights into career opportunities in the Army.
Ian Powell added: “The pupils left the session feeling prepared for their work experience placement and also with a greater understanding of what to expect in the world of work. All the class are now eager to complete their work experience placements in March. Thanks must go to EBeBP for arranging the Skills for Life session.”
