Star-Studded Ball Raises £38K For Local College
Cheltenham’s National Star College is celebrating after raising over £38,000 for young adults with disabilities.
‘The Golden Age of Hollywood Ball’ was held on Saturday 14th May, in an effort to raise funds for the independent specialist college, which works with learners who have physical, sensory or learning disabilities.
More than 350 people attended the event, held in a marquee at the College in Ullenwood. The highlights on the night included a charity auction, and a special guest appearance from Dr Dawn Harper, presenter of the Channel 4 television programme, Embarassing Bodies.
The Cheltenham branch of Kuoni Travel, silver sponsors of the event, donated three prizes for the auction, including a holiday at Buccament Bay in the Grenadines, which raised £2500.
Other prizes up for grabs from Kuoni included a holiday at the Verandah resort and spa in Antigua, which sold for £1500, and tickets for the England v Wales football match at Wembley Stadium, which was auctioned for £900.
Laura Brookes, a spokesperson for the National Star College, said: “We’d like to thank Kuoni for their support and sponsorship. The event raised over £38,000, which was thanks, in part, to the generous donation of auction prizes, which were extremely popular with guests.”
Roberto Balasco, Store Mangaer of Kuoni’s Cheltenham branch, said: “We were delighted to be able to support the National Star College. The night was such a great success, and I’m thrilled that so much money was raised for this worthy cause.”
The money raised at the event will be used to improve facilities at the college including physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and multisensory sessions for students. It will also contribute towards purpose-built residential accommodation to help the students gain independence.
