Sexual Healing Brings Back that Loving Feeling
Couples whose relationship is plagued by a joyless sex life may be worsening their situation by failing to address the root causes of the problem and seeking expert help.
According to psychotherapy and counselling specialists, Rivers Assist, it is estimated that up to sixty per cent of all couples experience sexual problems at some point during their relationship. However, many remain in denial, believing the situation to be nothing more than a short-lived phase.
Others may feel too uncomfortable to even bring the issue up with their partner, never mind a trained professional, in order to uncover and overcome the causes of their sexual problems. Though these problems are far more common than many realise, the average couple can wait up to six years before seeking help, which can certainly exacerbate the problem.
“We know that couples find it difficult to talk about such sensitive and confidential subject matter, so it’s vital to allow them to address their problems in an environment they feel safe in. Rivers Assist have found that offering a range of support, not just face-to-face counselling, but also over Skype and online is an effective way of putting clients at ease,” said Patricia Williams, Managing Director of UK-based Rivers Assist.
The causes of sexual difficulties can be physical, psychological or a mixture of both. Most sexual problems, however, are not medically based. In such cases, individuals may be pleased to discover that psychological sex therapies can unravel the issues, allowing couples to return to the fulfilling sexual experiences they would like to enjoy together.
“Sexual difficulties may begin early in a person's life, or they may develop later. Problems may manifest gradually, or may occur suddenly. In any of these cases, a total or partial inability to participate in one or more stages of the sexual act can occur,” explained Patricia.
River Assist’s national network of sexual therapists have identified that the most common problems are founded on stress, performance anxiety, intimacy issues, depression, boredom, poor body image, lack of education or problems in the relationship.
Rivers Assist’s network of psychosexual therapists works to discover the sources of problems, gain insight and develop techniques for overcoming sexual difficulties.
