School for Spies Opens in Slough – Just for a Day
A school in Slough has become a training ground for would-be spies, after another of its inspirational 'Curriculum Collapse' days.
The move is not a case for MI5, but one of the latest innovative methods of teaching undertaken at the ever-creative Long Close School.
Inspired by the adventures of James Bond and the ‘Alex Rider’ novels of Anthony Horowitz, on May 27, Head Teacher, David Brazier, handed over control of the school to the enigmatic and mysterious Russian Principal of the ‘Pegasus Spy Academy’.
Under the watchful eye of Madam Zero and her assistant, the monosyllabic Johnny Shadow, Long Close preparatory pupils became trainee spies for the day. Teachers also made the transition to Spy Instructors, replete with wigs and disguises.
During the day, spy recruits discovered the secrets of espionage, including code breaking, invisible ink, disguise, memory and observation games, team assault courses and scavenger hunts. They were also assigned special missions, ending the day in true James Bond fashion, with a shoot up – albeit with water pistols.
Mrs Sarah Sheridan, Head of the Preparatory School at Long Close, who organised the day, hailed the day a huge success, proclaiming: “This was an amazing event that combined fun with learning in a unique way.”
Previous ‘Curriculum Collapse’ events at Long Close have included a Renaissance Week and a Space Exploration Week. More events are planned for next academic year, including The Pegasus Spy Academy 2 - ‘Medusa Incorporated Strikes!’
