Runners invited to help save the world.
Runners from across the UK are urged to join a unique global charity run, which takes place in Morecambe this May.
The UK ‘Run 4 The World’ will see hundreds of kind-hearted runners take on a five or ten kilometre dash along Morecambe Promenade, to help raise much-needed funds for a variety of good causes. For a pledge of £10 to this year’s chosen charities, anyone is invited to take part, from professional athletes to mums with pushchairs.
This year, the UK run will be supporting ‘Ambassadors in Sport’, which uses football to help children re-engage with education around the world, in addition to ‘Christians Against Poverty’, a national debt-counselling charity with a network of 150 centres based in local churches.
Last year, runs took place in a diverse range of nations, including the UK, Canada, France, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Moldova, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Romania, Singapore, South Africa, Ukraine and the USA.
Now, organisers are hoping to find as many runners as possible and have also launched a bid to find organisational sponsors, to support the run in exchange for a chance to get involved on the day.
Previous successes of ‘Run 4 The World’ include the efforts of Moldova, which received help from the event in 2007, and went on to enter its own team in 2008, raising $400 for street children in Nepal – more than a months wages in Moldova. Martin Bateman, from Run 4 The World, said:
“It's been really exciting to see the difference small groups of people around the world can make. I'm particularly heartened by stories like the one from Moldova, where the run has given the people there an opportunity to help others and be proud of the fact they've made a difference to someone on the other side of the world. Hopefully this year will be even bigger and better than ever.”
Last year, in the UK alone, the run raised £4,000 from just 250 runners and their sponsors. Anyone interested in taking part this year should contact Martin Bateman on 078899 49612 or email: martin.bateman@r4tw.org.
