Pupil proves class act in charge of her school
Pupil Kajol Kumar saw what life was like from the other side of the desk, when she was given the chance to step into her head teacher’s shoes.
Year 7 pupil Kajol Kumar, took up the reins at Long Close School, Upton, Slough – and she instantly made her mark with some popular new rules.
Kajol took over from head David Brazier, after her father bid successfully at the school’s Christmas fayre for her to become head for the day. She eased herself into the role with a meeting with the head’s personal assistant, who had set out the agenda for the day, before taking the helm in the school assembly.
Kajol’s new rules included allowing the girls to wear their hair down with their own choice of hair accessories, allowing the boys to remove their ties for the day and declaring that there was to be no homework for pupils up to Year 9. But she insisted that senior detention still took place at first break.
Other duties included observing a Year 2 lesson and reading her favourite story, The Owl & the Pussycat, to Year 1 pupils. Then after a meeting with Mr Brazier, she reserved lunch for three friends with a menu of her choice in the dining hall before finding time to show a prospective parent around the school.
Kajol also took a telephone call from Cognita Head Office and had a meeting with head of prep Mrs Battersby. Her busy day ended with gate duty, where she waved pupils goodbye as they left the Upton Court Road school for home.
Kajol said: “I spent the last half an hour of the day in my office with my friends. All I can say is that, overall, I’d give my day as head 10 out of 10!”
