Pub regulars dig deep for Brian
A Washington pub regular has been honoured by his fellow drinkers who raised thousands of pounds for charity in his memory.
Patrons of the Washington Arms, have taken part in various activities including a charity bike ride, a charity fundraising day and auction.
In total the pub raised over £4,000 in memory of former customer Brian Mitchell, who died after losing his battle with throat cancer.
To kick-off the fundraising the pub organised a 22-mile charity bike ride to the coast, which attracted 20 riders and raised £1,408 for the Northumberland Air Ambulance.
The pub then held a charity day, with a performance from band Frankies Cafe and a raffle as well.
They also had an auction with all of the cash put into a bucket together with ticket sale proceeds netting a total of £2,800.
The cash will be split between the palliative nurses who helped care for Mr Mitchell during his illness and the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer appeal.
Wendy Tweddle, pub manager at the pub, said Mr Mitchell was a good friend and customer of the pub.
She said: "All staff and customers have played their part in raising this money and to say we are really proud is an understatement.
"We never imagined raising this amount and everyone is delighted with the outcome. Brian's family were extremely grateful for all the time and effort put in."
Brian was a member of the Washington Arms Golf Society and had shared many golfing trips with the regulars who took a big part in the fund raising.
