Psychics See Sense in Taking Cover Against the Unexpected
Psychics and other spiritual workers are leaving nothing to chance, and investing in specialist insurance, tailored to their niche industry.
The Spiritual Workers’ Association (SWA) has teamed-up with Greenock-based insurance brokerage, West of Scotland (WOS), to offer its members fully comprehensive cover, to ensure they are well prepared if a client seriously challenges their advice or services.
WOS is providing hundreds of SWA members with a policy, which gives them public indemnity and liability cover, offering peace of mind should they be accused of malpractice.
SWA Managing Director, Simon Curwood said: “As the industry is so unusual, there is a massive scope for misunderstanding in the details of the advice, or service being given. Disputes can easily arise, so having protection for these potential situations is essential.”
With the cost of insurance starting from as little as just £27 for a whole year, more and more spiritual workers are joining the SWA to receive its full range of support services and advice.
The cost of the insurance is kept low for SWA members, because they abide by a professional code of conduct, which reduces the risk of malpractice, minimising the risk to the insurance underwriters.
WOS spokeswoman, Julie Lochead, said it was no shock to the broker to be asked to provide cover for psychics, but she admitted that it was “something different.”
“Providing insurance for psychics and other spiritual workers is an interesting job, made more enjoyable by the fact that all these clients are so nice”, she added.
By joining organisations like the SWA, and following a professional code of conduct, issuing disclaimers, receipts and invoices, and being fully covered by insurance, spiritualistic service providers are demonstrating that they are taking their profession more seriously, and are setting the benchmark for industry standards.
The success of the partnership between the SWA and WOS has led Mr Curwood to plan a visit to the broker’s Glasgow office in two weeks’ time, to discuss additional services that can be made available to SWA members.
