Print Handbook for Designers Proving to be Worldwide Hit
A print and design aid, produced by a West Midlands-based design agency, is proving to be an International success.
The Media Collective, based in Coleshill, has produced ‘The Print Handbook’ after identifying a gap in the market for such an innovative and concise trade resource.
Staff at the company had searched for a reference book to help with their own design work, but when they couldn’t find one, decided to produce one themselves.
‘The Print Handbook’ is unique for its simplicity. It is a collection of imperative information put together in a small, manageable document. The handbook aims at cutting out the guesswork, which sometimes happens between screen and print.
Since its launch in February, and without any paid advertising, The Print Handbook has sold hundreds of copies all over the world, as far afield as USA, Canada and Australia. The design aid has also created a fast growing social media interest.
The book was the brainchild of The Media Collective’s designer Andy Brown, who works for the company from their Northern Ireland office.
“We see this as an affordable, must-have resource for all design students. It is hoped colleges and universities will see its benefit in helping them bridge the gap between screen and print. We are all delighted with its global success,” said Andy.
The Media Collective are keen to give staff the chance to create their own personal projects and this was Andy’s baby. The designer has received great feedback and input from everyone at the company.
Jez Currin, Creative Director at The Media Collective, added:
“The whole project has been such a phenomenal success. It’s great to see that Andy has produced such a stir in such a short amount of time. It seems there are designers all over the world who have been looking for a resource like this. We have had some really constructive feedback from customers, so much so that we are considering producing a premium edition, which includes more expensive print processes.”
