PR Agency launches storytelling initiative for local school children.
As part of National Storytelling Week staff from a West Midlands company have launched a local campaign to highlight the importance of storytelling in schools.
To celebrate the 10th National Storytelling Week, Hannah Pearson and Michelle Kendall (pictured) of Sutton Coldfield based pr2go visited Hurley Primary School to tell the infant children the story of ‘Puss in Boots’.
After a few weeks rehearsing they performed the tale in front of a 60 strong audience of four to seven year olds. Ordinarily the moral of the tale is one of contention – Puss gains from deceit and is never caught out or punished in anyway. However, knowing the impact stories of this ilk can have on youngsters Hannah and Michelle manipulated the well-known story to ensure the moral was clear and correct.
Year one teacher Sarah Hawkins said: "It was great of pr2go to come and read stories to the kids, not only does it get the school involved with local businesses, but the children loved it too!"
The week, run by the Society for Storytelling aims to raise awareness of the art of telling stories, not only to children, but to adults too. Storytelling differs from merely reading a book – the original tellers never wrote their tales down, they were passed on by word of mouth and acted out much like a play.
The company is hoping to continue the storytelling for the next few months in West Midlands, raising money for the NSPCC in the process.
The pair are now looking for more local schools to attend, for more information please contact Hannah Pearson on 0844 826 4277.
