Pals Get on Their Bikes to Raise Funds for Cancer Battle

A mammoth bike ride by two Manchester friends could help raise thousands of pounds to help the fight against cancer.

Steve Faulkner (36) and his brother in law, Alan Kenny (33), both from Bramhall, in Stockport, are preparing to cycle from John O'Groats to Lands’ End, over 10 days, in aid of Cancer Research this August, with the aim of raising £10,000.

The pair will tackle the 1000-mile journey in memory of Steve’s grandfather, who lost a long battle with lung cancer in 1998. It will also mean a lot to Alan, whose mother is currently being treated for breast cancer, after being diagnosed with the disease last year. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Steve, a Print Finisher at Pelican Press, a marketing and print services company, based in Manchester said the duo were already training hard, adding, with a touch of irony: “Having not ridden more than eight miles before in our lives, we feel we are extremely well prepared for the challenge.

"Cancer has affected both of our families and by doing this we hope we can help to find a cure and stop other people suffering and losing their loved ones. It is going to be a very difficult task, but it will also be an incredible experience and will raise money for a very worthy cause. I hope lots of people support us", he added.

People will be able to follow the bike ride via YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIn, to see how the two are progressing during the 10-day bike ride.

The charity bike ride is not the first time Pelican staff has gone to great lengths for charity.
