New Training Device to Aid First Aiders

First aid trainees in South Wales can now experience what it really feels like to prevent someone from choking, thanks to an innovative new training tool.

The Act+Fast Anti Choking Trainer is used by students learning how to perform abdominal thrusts, to prevent people from choking.

The training device attaches to the trainee and simulates the body’s response to abdominal thrusts, by ejecting a dummy choking hazard into the air, when the procedure is performed correctly.

Stuart Thompson, Director of Communications at RT Training Services Ltd of Pontypridd, said his company has had a fantastic response from trainees since they started using the device.

He said: “The anti-choking trainer is an exciting new addition to our first aid training programmes. It makes the training even more interactive, and shows how first aid can make a real difference in an emergency.”

“Initial feedback from trainees has been very positive, and we will now be using the device on the full range of our first aid training courses.”

The anti-choking trainer, which is manufactured by Act Fast Medical, also includes a foam back slap pad, which enables students to practice other anti-choking first aid methods.

RT Training Services offers more than 40 different training courses to a wide range of clients, including first aid, food hygiene, manual handling and door supervisors.
