New Pet First Aid Course Saves the Day

A pioneering course that could save a pets life, is giving owners the knowledge needed to help their four-legged friend in an emergency. The new course has now been expanded to include dog and cat care on a simple to use online video course.

The ProTrainings Pet First Aid Course helps people learn the basic skills that could help a cat, dog or other domestic animal in distress.

Pet owners can receive the training as an online or classroom-based course by approved instructors.

The revolutionary online course is video-based and allows students to learn at their own pace and have access to the site for an eight-month period. It comes with a Pet First Aid student manual and an optional weekly pet first aid refresher video email, reminding them of a different pet skill every week. Students are able to access a magazine-style site that includes interviews on pet related subjects and first aid updates.

ProTrainings use video based e-learning to better show all ages the basic care that can be given to pets in an emergency before prompting veterinary care.  Pet owners have found it to be a valuable source of life saving information.

A classroom course with ProTrainings' approved instructors is also available for people or clubs who want to learn in a more traditional environment.

Keith Sleightholm, ProTrainings Director, explained why his company had developed the course: “Many of us have learnt first aid skills to help deal with emergency situations involving people, but how many of us can do the same for our pets?

“We have worked with experts to put together some simple training that could reduce a pet’s pain and discomfort when they are unwell or have an accident. It could even help to save their life by keeping them calm and safe before receiving professional care from a vet.”

The training focuses largely on dogs, as it is not possible to list every type of animal for every skill. However, the basic care is the same for all animals and trainers summarise the differences during the course segments.

The course can be found at www.propetfirstaid.co.uk and further information on 01223 911805.
