New broadband service boosts business upload speeds

DOWNLOAD speeds from Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are a serious point of contention at the moment.

With so many complaints from users that their download speed is not as fast as that advertised when they signed up, many ISPs are taking the necessary steps to have them increased.

However, according to Manchester-based company Computerised Business Systems Limited (CBS); it is upload speed that businesses need to be wary of. When it comes to remote access, sending large files, streaming media, sharing work, voice over IP and video conferencing, CBS claims a decent upload speed is crucial.

August 2010 saw the national launch of BT’s ‘Annex M’ broadband service. This service, which is delivered via their new ‘21 CN’ network, offers customers up to 20Mb download speed and up to 2Mb upload speed. This means that not only is downloading data from the Internet faster but uploading data to the Internet can now be done at nearly twice the speed of other providers. With larger emails not taking as long to send and the sharing of data between remote sites and home-workers becoming faster, the benefits to collective business productivity are obvious.

CBS provides broadband services to businesses throughout the UK and the company believes UK business will see noticeable improvements to their entire communications culture if they switch to BT’s new broadband service.

Providing that ‘Annex M’ is available at a customer’s local telephone exchange, CBS is now offering the service at a reduced introductory offer price of £39.99 + VAT per month (payable by Direct Debit) when customers migrate their connection to them. Until now ‘Annex M’ has been offered at £59.99 + VAT per month, but the benefits of BT’s new service seem so apparent that CBS has decided to offer it to its customers with a saving of 1/3 off the original price.

‘Annex M’ is simple to set up and normally fully-functional within five working days. Customers need a BT analogue telephone line and those who already have broadband on their line need to obtain a MAC code from their current service provider in order to migrate successfully.

According to CBS, the businesses that will benefit most from ‘Annex M’ are those that share data between more than one office, those with home-workers, those who send large files (such as CAD drawings or high-resolution graphics files) to designers and printers and those who stream voice, video and other data onto the Internet.

Andy Thompson, Technical Director of CBS said:

“By increasing the upload speed of your broadband connection, a business can benefit greatly when remotely accessing their computers or linking multiple sites together. Transferring files, emails and data becomes so much faster than before.”
