MS Support Centre celebrates a fantastic 2010
The MS Support Centre in Saltney, Chester, celebrated its 25th Anniversary this year with 12 months of events, which have helped to raise over £30,000 for the Centre and increase awareness of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and other neurological conditions.
Most recently, a charity bag-pack in November raised essential funds for the Centre, which provides support for those with MS and their families in Cheshire, Wirral, Merseyside and North Wales.
Staff and volunteers from the centre were joined by students from Queen’s Park High School, in Handbridge at the tills in the Tesco store in Frodsham Square, Chester, to give shoppers a helping hand, raising £1500 in donations for the charity.
These vital funds have already been earmarked and are going to be used to purchase a balance trainer for use at the Centre. People with MS often have difficulty with movement, as well as coordination and balance, and balance trainers have been proven to both reduce the risk of falling and improve stability.
Jane Johnston-Cree, Therapies Manager at the Centre said:
“We’d like to thank all of the volunteers and those who donated money on the day. The balance trainer will prove invaluable to our members, helping them to maintain their independence and mobility.”
Also in November, and in recognition of its work, the MS Support Centre was awarded the ‘Workstep Development’ accolade in the Cheshire West and Cheshire Council (CWAC) Positive Awards for Business 2010.
Many members of the MS Support Centre are involved in its management, and this award, sponsored by ‘Blue Orchid’, recognises the Centre’s contribution to the recruitment and employment of disabled and disadvantaged people.
Collecting the award on behalf of the MS Support Centre was a delighted Paul Etherington, who remarked:
“The nomination came from an outside source, so that was a surprise in itself, but to win this award is a great achievement for us.”
The MS Support Centre also helps people with Parkinson’s Disease and welcomes any support or donations. For more information on supporting the MS Support Centre, please call: 01244 678619 or visit www.mssupport.co.uk http://www.mssupport.co.uk.
