MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN SIDCUP: NEW BUILDERS' MERCHANT CREATES 50 JOBS AND DONATES £1,000 TO LOCAL SCOUT GROUP
A builders' merchant marked the opening of a new outlet in Sidcup by throwing its support behind the local scout group, presenting it with £1,000 and the materials to renovate the scouts’ meeting hall.
Selco, which supplies the building trade with materials, opened a branch off Sandy Lane in Sidcup on July 13th, creating 50 news jobs in the area.
The company’s aim is to support local tradesmen and the community, so its first task was to present the cheque to Reece Davis, the Assistant District Commissioner for the Chislehurst and Sidcup Scout Association to help renovations at 3rd St Paul’s Cray Scout Group.
Ross Sandy, branch manager, said that the launch had been a big success, with more than 250 customers visiting the store.
“This is the 28th Selco branch to open, and we chose the location because it was so close to all the main commuter links in the area. The feedback has been great – tradesmen in the region are really pleased that the convenience will help give their customers an improved service.
“We wanted to support the local community from the off, and what better way than to choose a great organisation that was seeking support. It made sense for Selco to help the scout group with building materials to repair the hall. It’s great to know the local kids will benefit.
Selco was formed as a family business so family charities are very much a part of the company’s offering to communities. Selco also support the NSPCC,” he said.
Sidcup is the 3rd new Selco branch to open this year. Others recently opened in Nottingham and Romford. The £2.5m of investment, £1m worth of stock in 30,000sqft warehouse at Sidcup has created 50 jobs ranging from till operators to lorry drivers.
Selco in Sidcup is close to the M25, M20 and A20, is self-service, open seven days a week and has van-sized parking spaces.
