Made redundant - now Tony's helping other companies survive the recession

A SOLIHULL man who lost his high-powered marketing job in the recession has started his own business helping start-up companies get off to a flying start.

Tony Malin was made redundant in January this year after spending 10 years as product marketing manager for a global industrial machinery manufacturer.

But - rather than feeling sorry for himself  - he saw his change in circumstances as an ideal opportunity to start his own marketing company and be his own boss.

Optima Marketing is targeted primarily at emerging companies and draws on 30 years experience in the field of business-to-business sales and marketing.

The idea is to provide entrepreneurs and more established SMEs with a range of “workshop-style” marketing training courses to help them reach their goals.

One designed specifically for new businesses shows them how to put together business and marketing plans, design newsletters, and create their own website.

Tony said: “I realised that lots of people who wanted to start their own business lacked the marketing skills which would prevent them falling flat on their face.

“There was clearly a gap in the market for a company which actually gave people the basic marketing tools to survive on their own. So I went for it.”
