Local businesses join forces in charity support
An insurance broker has rallied the Berkshire business community in support of a special baby care unit.
Babies In Buscot Support (BIBS) is run by and for the parents and family of premature and sick newborn babies in the Buscot Special Care Baby Unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. The Finch Group, based in Reading, raised over £3000 for the cause, following some concerted fundraising efforts with the local business community.
The Insurance Brokers and Independent Financial Advisors held a golf day in September at Sherfield Oaks in Loddon, where fifteen teams of local solicitors, bankers, clients and insurers, including Aviva, Santander, Allianz, Pitmans and RBS competed against each other. £2135 was raised from the competition, thanks to the contributions made by local businesses, including reduced rates from Sherfield Oaks.
Vincent Gardner, Managing Director said:
“We were delighted with the amount of interest from the local business community and are excited to have raised over £2000 for such a worthwhile cause. Sherfield Oaks Golf Club was very supportive and accommodating to our needs.”
Every year, the Finch Group adopts a charity, choosing to support Babies in Buscott Support at the beginning of 2010. The insurance brokers have been raising money for BIBS throughout the year, through a series of dress-down days, party evenings, book sales and jewelery parties.
Earlier this year, the firm also raised £300 from staff sponsorship of non-Executive Director Paul Finch’s ten-day, 100km cycle trek around Sicily. The next planned activity is a pool challenge; due to take place early next year. This will be an opportunity to attempt to beat England Pool Captain and Finch Group Account Executive, Ryan Houston, over five frames.
