Jive’s Still Alive at the Showgirl Academy

Calling all jitterbugs! A one-of-a-kind dance school in Bristol has announced the launch of its latest fresh and unique class, the Solo Jive.

Dance enthusiasts in the South West have been given an opportunity to return to the swinging 1940’s jazz era, without the worry of finding a dance partner, on the Showgirl Academy’s latest dance class.

Claire Phipps, Artistic Director of the Academy, explains her inspiration for this latest offering, “I created the course after noticing lots of women were interested in learning jive, but were put off either because they didn’t have a partner to go with, or because they felt awkward about dancing with a stranger.”

Neither a partner, nor previous dance experience is required for an uproarious good time. Students learn the fast-paced flicks, kicks and twists of bona-fide jive dance, recently brought back into the spotlight on Strictly Come Dancing.

The Showgirl Academy has a strong focus on vintage styles that cannot be found at other dance studios. Consequently, the Academy’s Solo Jive course is the only one of its kind offered in the South West region.

The Charleston, Can-Can, Burlesque, Fan Dancing and even 60’s Go-Go are but a few of The Showgirl Academy’s courses offered to women of all shapes and sizes (over the age of 18), for fun and fitness.

Students can also participate in cabaret-style shows, to experience that singular thrill of being on the stage.
