It Definitely Just IS Cricket!

Talented children at one school are bowling over the competition with their growing success in the cricketing world.

Pupils at Long Close School, in Upton Park, Slough, are incontestably “cricket crazy”, in what their Headteacher, David Brazier, calls a “golden generation.” The school has always been well known for its sporting prowess, but in recent years, it has seen a surge in impressive cricketing achievements.

This year, the school has four pupils who are proudly playing for county cricket teams, an extraordinary achievement for a school of this size. Currently Diraj Khulllar plays for Middlesex and Uxbridge, whilst Crawford Wilson, James Harris and George Harris all play for Berkshire and Windsor. George is also Berkshire under 10’s captain.

The Under 11’s and 1st Team are unbeaten this year, after victories against their rival school teams, whilst the Under 12’s have also got through to the third round of the Berkshire cup.

This summer, the Under 11’s team will be embarking on their first tour to Somerset, where they will stay with and play against pupils at Chilton Cantello School. Following this match, the team will then take on pupils from Millfield Prep, one of the best sporting schools in England!

The young cricketers have received inspiration from a host of former international cricketers, who have visited the school to pass on their tips and share their experiences. Guests have included the England fast bowler, Devon Malcolm, former Pakistan captain Asif Iqbal and former India wicket keeper/batsman Farokh Engineer.
