Invest in ‘Brand You’ for Career Success

Social Media consultant Allan Blair Beaton advises businesses in South Wales to do their homework and check out the online profiles of potential employees.

With professional networking platform Linkedin breaching the 100 million members mark last week, there has never been a better time to headhunt online.

Similarly, this means that the onus is now on the job applicant to ensure that they present themselves appropriately throughout their online profiles.

"In today’s Social Media savvy world, ensuring your personal online presentation is positive and compelling can determine the success of your business or your advancement through the ranks in your career," said Mr Blair Beaton.

"Employers can browse, select and deselect potential employees in a way never before possible“, he added.

Allan also points out that through social networks, people have the opportunity to carefully cultivate their own online persona - something he calls 'Brand You'.

"Part of ‘Brand You’, in the future, will be measured by the size of your network, reflected by your ‘friends’ on Facebook or your professional connections on LinkedIn.

“Profiles should emphasise more about the person you are, rather than exclusively focusing on what you do. It is no longer necessary to leave our future in the hands of others”, he concluded.
