Hyde Park School in Harvest Health Heroics

CHILDREN from a local school raised over two thousand pounds for charity during a themed event.

Students, parents and staff at St. Nicholas Preparatory School, near Hyde Park, held a charity fun run during the school’s ‘Harvest Health Week’ in October, raising a grand total of £2056 for the Pakistan Flood Relief. Representatives from the school were thrilled to hand over a cheque to the charity, for the full amount, late last week.

The Fun Run was held before school for three days during ‘Harvest Health Week’. Each day, the children clocked up laps, raising money through sponsorship for each one completed. They also prepared a variety of fruity snacks throughout the week, learning about the value of maintaining a healthy diet and good exercise.

Jill Aisher, Head Teacher said:

“The Fun Runs were extremely well organised and pupils have understood and enjoyed the important messages about health whilst generating significant funds for a worthy cause. The recent BBC documentary we watched in assembly gave a clear picture of the scale of their need, which inspired the children to want to help.”

In keeping with the Harvest Festival, the children also donated a total of eight boxes of canned goods and dry food, to the local homeless shelter ‘The Passage’, allowing them to appreciate the value of helping an equally worthy cause closer to home.
