Hair Removal Salon Helps Women Hold Their Heads High

At least 25% of middle-aged women suffer from unwanted facial hair and because of the stigma attached to discussing it, many don’t realise that treatment is an option – a fact that Stourbridge salon owner Tejinder (Tej) Ghag is hoping to change.

We might occasionally see a picture of a woman with a roll of stomach fat in the media, but never one with a hairy lip or chin. Facial hair might not be something many people want to talk about, but dealing with it can make a huge difference to quality of life. Hair removal specialist Tej knows from her clients’ experience how facial hair can destroy confidence and make their lives a misery. “The most common complaint I hear from women is about hair on their face. Women hate it and become frustrated with it, many lose their self-confidence, preferring to lead a solitary life. They’ll try everything to get rid of it”.

“I had one client, a woman in her late 30's with a dark facial beard and a shadow, who had been shaving daily for a very long time and feeling very low in herself.” says Tej. “Working in an office she felt very self conscious as she could tell people were talking about her facial hair behind her back. She decided to come to me and has now had about eight treatments. She is a changed woman now and people in her office have told her how good she looks.”

Having run her Stourbridge based salon for 8 years; Tej found her way into hair removal by first offering traditional treatments such as facials, manicures and pedicures but found her self increasingly being asked for hair removal.  “People don't want to walk into a beauty salon where people have manicures and facials and ask about facial hair removal, it takes a lot of courage to just talk to a stranger about facial hair, let alone having to do it in public.” she says, sympathetically. So she now specialises in hair removal alone and knows that her clients appreciate the privacy her home-run salon offers, and the expertise that comes from seeing a hair removal expert.

Tej offers a range of hair removal methods for all hair types: For dark hairs, laser method is the most successful for permanent hair reduction. Electrolysis is equally as effective in removing those coarse grey/blonde hairs and advanced technology has meant electrolysis has become more gentle and comfortable, and remains an affordable, modern treatment.  The Epil-Pro method is suitable for all hair colours and skin types and is highly popular with clients with soft facial hair. It can clear entire areas such as the upper lip, chin and cheeks in one treatment. Waxing is still the most common form of hair removal because of its results in smooth hair free skin for several weeks.

“I really enjoy my job – it’s rewarding to know I make a difference to peoples lives so they can live their life normally again, instead of looking in the mirror every time before they go out to see if any hairs are showing or wear a scarf and dip their face to hide the hair.” she says.
