Green is the colour for St Valentine’s Day
An environmental matchmaking agency is urging people to turn away from costly gifts and think green when celebrating St Valentine’s Day.
EcoLovers.co.uk, the green dating website, is encouraging its members and other romantic people to consider a more environmentally friendly approach when asking their loved one to be their Valentine.
Nick Shread, founder of EcoLovers.co.uk wants people to create their own Valentines cards from recycled materials. For individuals not creatively inclined, he recommends gifts that have been produced locally.
“We feel it is important not to lose the message behind Valentine’s Day, to get away from the retail-minded focus of a gesture of love and to remember that the smallest of environmentally friendly gestures can mean the world to a loved one,” said Nick.
“You could go to a local florist that stocks flowers grown locally, a wine merchant that stocks locally produced wine, or even fruit wines. Alternatively, a meal at a restaurant that sources all its meat and produce locally would be a good choice.”
