Golfers Invited to Tee-Off for Charity

Golfers are being invited to take part in a charity golf day in aid of Chester’s MS Support Centre.

The event, on Tuesday 24th May, is being sponsored by Cheshire-based property development firm, Bell Meadow and will take place at Helsby Golf Club near Chester.

This is the centre’s second annual charity golf day and organisers are hoping to beat last year’s fundraising success of £1,500.  These funds contributed towards the running costs of the Centre, which is based in Saltney, and which currently has 250 members.  The charity receives no automatic statutory funding for its services, and around 80 per cent of its funding is provided through fundraising activities such as the golf day.

Neil Kemsley, Chairman of the MS Support Centre, said: “We invite golfers to join us for another 18-hole ‘Texas Scramble competition’ to raise money for our centre. We hope to raise even more funds this year to help the centre to continue its work providing practical support, therapies and management strategies to people living with MS and other neurological conditions.”

The charity golf day will include refreshments on arrival in the morning, plus a three-course dinner, raffle and prize-giving event in the evening. The cost is £200 to enter a team of four.

As part of its programme of fundraising and profile raising events this year, supporters of the MS Support Centre gathered at their fifth Directors’ Lunch earlier this month at Restaurant 1539, Chester Race Course, and it was another excellent opportunity for guests to network.

The speaker on the day was Squadron Leader John Farron MBE, who has 50 years experience managing UK and International aerospace projects and who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease four years ago.  A fellow of The Royal Aeronautical Society, a qualified flying instructor, and author of the book ‘Ice On My Wings’, John gave a witty insight into some of his airborne experiences over the years.
