Fun Day Keeps Lifeboats Afloat
A charity day to help keep the local Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) afloat has raised £20,000.
The Fun Day, held at Mudeford Quay, Dorset, on Sunday 24th July, was attended by 15,000 people.
The day provided something for everyone, with activities including a raft race, lifeboat and helicopter display, a duck race, kayaking, funfair, auctions, raffle, stalls, sideshows and live music.
Local company, Cookes Furniture, sponsored the Fun Day, and provided a BBQ for the visitors.
It costs £60,000 a year to keep the Mudeford Lifeboat Station afloat, yet the station receives no funding, and therefore relies heavily upon volunteers and fundraising in the local community.
Cookes Marketing Director, Vanessa Hoe, said: “It is our pleasure to sponsor this event as it is for such a worthwhile cause.”
Operating from a new boathouse on the picturesque Mudeford Quay, the RNLI carries out a variety of rescues, and it has received four awards for gallantry.
More than 4,800 lifeboat crew and members around the UK and Republic of Ireland drop everything when their pagers go off, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
