EMS Offer Help To Those Affected By Council Cuts
A local company are offering a helping hand to vulnerable people, following Hertfordshire County Council’s decision to cut all funding for stair and vertical lift maintenance.
EMS Stairlifts, Hertfordshire's largest specialist stairlift and disabled lift company, has offered to maintain stairlifts and vertical lifts for all residents affected by the County Council’s decision to cut their maintenance service.
Last month, Hertfordshire County Council informed all the 1100 people affected that they would no longer be able to fund the cost of their lift maintenance, a service it had provided for more than 20 years.
These cuts are part of Hertfordshire County Council’s efforts to save a reported £150m over four years.
EMS Stairlifts, who have been the council’s primary contractor since 1991, have decided to continue providing the same premium service to Hertfordshire users of starlifts and vertical lifts, at specially discounted rates.
Mick Armstrong, EMS Operations Director, says, "In the current financial climate, it is understandable that these services would come under scrutiny. At EMS, we are very comfortable in the knowledge that the agreement we are offering as a direct replacement represents tremendous value for money, offering complete peace of mind."
Once purchased, the new service care agreement will kick in seamlessly after the next, and final, council funded service agreement has expired.
Although the withdrawal of funding for disabled lift maintenance is undoubtedly a blow to some of the most vulnerable people in Hertfordshire, it’s worth noting that many counties have never offered this service. Also, the council have made it clear that they will investigate all claims of hardship.
