Domestic Abuse Charity’s New Website is Ready, Willing and ABEL

A self-build website system, developed by a Birmingham based design team, is helping charities and organisations with limited funds to benefit from a professional Internet presence.

Among them is ‘Survivors Of Domestic Abuse’ (SODA), a West Midlands charity, run by Sam Billingham, who uses her own experience to help others in abusive relationships. Local charities like SODA often find it difficult to attract funding, without which they cannot reach a wider audience.

Darren Langham and Matthew Tullet, who run project design company Twelve20, are using their website builder to help charities in need of an effective website to spread their message.

The system, known as ABEL Website Builder, provides full content management for the user. It is particularly useful for business start-ups and organisations in the voluntary sector, which David Cameron has targeted for growth as part of his Big Society initiative.

Shelley Jackson-Woodall, Business Development Manager at promotional merchandise and marketing company Funky Concepts in Stourbridge, is a keen supporter of SODA and decided to help the charity by sponsoring a website.

Shelley commented: “After seeing ABEL I was excited by its usability. I immediately began tweeting and recommending it to others. It was an easy decision to suggest that Sam and SODA use it because it’s easy to update, looks fantastic, has great support, and is a cost-effective solution, at less than 20p a day.

“Sam came to the office and spent a couple of hours typing up her pages and following the step-by-step guide. By the end of the morning we had a website; you can't get better than that,” she added.
