Despite recession, nutritional supplements industry in tip-top shape
Brits are gobbling up nutritional supplements, one expert says, and are more interested than ever in their own health and well-being.
Kunel Patel, co- owner of Bulk Supplements Direct, has seen his business expand at a massive rate, despite the weakening economy over the last couple of years and worries over the recession.
“Our business has doubled every year for the past two years. But the most significant thing that we’ve noticed is that people are much more aware of nutrition. British people are very curious about what supplements they should be taking and how these supplements will benefit their health,” Patel said.
Patel attributes his success to a “no-nonsense” approach to nutrition, without the unrealistic claims made by many companies.
“We are not saying you will lose 2 stone in 2 weeks. What we are saying is that we can help with everyday ailments – like joint pain, or a lack of energy. It’s about nutrition, and I think that is appealing to people. Especially during tough times, when we need to look after ourselves the most.”
