Cranbrook scoops prestigious national award
Staff and students at a school in Redbridge were celebrating this week, following the news that they have scooped a major accolade.
After more than two years of hard work, Cranbrook, an independent school in Ilford, Essex, has become the first independent school in the region to achieve the coveted ‘Healthy School Status’.
Roger Taylor, Assistant Head at Cranbrook said:
“The school has been working extremely hard towards achieving this status and it has been very much a part of school life for the past two and a half years, so we are all extremely pleased and proud to finally get recognition”
The status is bestowed upon schools that show a commitment to the development of school curriculums as well as the emotional and physical learning environments in which their pupils work, through the National Healthy Schools Programme.
Schools applying for Healthy School Status are required to show a commitment in four key themes covering personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE), healthy eating, physical activity and emotional health and wellbeing.
The school will now receive a plaque and certificate and the official NHSP logo to use on official school documentation after receiving the seal of approval from the Redbridge Healthy Schools Co-ordinator, Colin Day, who praised the school for its achievement:
“You are clearly passionate about the work! Well done!”
Bosses at Cranbrook also announced plans to expand the catering facilities at the School to ensure kitchen staff can continue to provide top quality fresh and healthy meals.
