Christchurch shop puts cowboy builder troubles to bed
A furniture showroom in Dorset came to the aid of an elderly resident who fell victim to a reckless workman.
Cookes Furniture, on Somerford Road, Christchurch, was approached by the producers of popular Channel 5 show ‘Cowboy Builders’, to lend a much-needed helping hand to a local grandmother.
The television show, fronted by Dominic Littlewood and Melinda Messenger, was helping to resolve the plight of the luckless woman, who had entrusted a local builder to create an attic conversion where she could recover in peace following a gruelling course of chemotherapy.
However, four months later, the negligent workman walked away from the job, leaving the family’s home in tatters.
When they heard of the situation, Cookes gladly welcomed ‘Cowboy Builders’ presenter Melinda Messenger to their Christchurch store, where they donated beds, cabinets, mirrors and mattresses, all free of charge, to help deliver a much-deserved loft conversion to the unfortunate victim.
As a result of Cookes Furniture’s help, the show was able to furnish two bedrooms in an episode recently broadcast across the UK.
Melinda Messenger, ‘Cowboy Builders’ presenter, was thrilled with Cookes’ generosity, telling Manager Simon Houghton:
“I love the store and the furniture is fabulous. I would love to shop here myself.”
