Business for breakfast? Start your day with a healthy dose of networking, says Uppingham entrepreneur
Most people dread their mornings, starting the day with a slow stroll into the office. But one local businesswoman is launching a networking group that’s guaranteed to kick-start any entrepreneur’s day.
Top business referral organisation, Business for Breakfast is launching in Uppingham on May 18th, meeting at the town’s historical Falcon Hotel between 06:45 and 08:30 every alternate Tuesday.
The event will give attendees the opportunity to share breakfast with like-minded business people, exchange contacts and generate leads in an informal and fun environment.
The group will be run by Joan and Keith Edwards, who see the event as a great way to connect local businesses: “It's a well known fact that a business referral generates 80% more results than a cold call and that approximately 70% of all jobs are found through networking," explains Joan.
"Now, more than ever, business people need to get out there and network with other like-minded individuals - it's vital as a means of supplementing their marketing efforts, meeting useful new contacts, and improving their order books. Why not enjoy a relaxed and informal occasion whilst savoring the delights of the Falcon’s excellent breakfasts.”
The event welcomes those who are both experienced business networkers, and those who want to try it for the first time.
Joan offers some tips for those who want to attend the event as part of their first networking efforts: “It might sound obvious, but you have to be approachable and talk to people; you also need to be well prepared and able to sum up your business effectively in 60 seconds.”
“At the event, you need to be aware of your body language, and adopt an open posture which will encourage others to talk to you. You should show an interest in your companions rather than talk about yourself, asking lots of open questions to encourage conversation. Networking is all about building up long term relationships, so after the event always make sure that you follow up any contacts you have made. You could suggest a meeting where you can both find out more about each other's businesses."
Everyone is welcome, and any questions should be directed to Joan on 0844 576 3280 or email joan.edwards@bforb.co.uk.
