Bunny Boilers Have Their Days Numbered
Hell hath no fury like a well scorned bunny boiler, and anyone whose dream girl turned out to be a bit of a nutter can tell you, it’s not always easy to give them the boot once they’ve got hold of your number.
The launch of Number Cloak is a welcome relief, as the days of endless calls at 3am, from a girl who just won’t take the hint, are over.
By providing a temporary, secondary number, which diverts calls directly to your phone, Number Cloak hides your real number, so you can give it out to a girl you just met at the bar, without worrying about giving her a full mental screening first.
To celebrate its launch, Number Cloak Directors, Sunny Rai and Kam Thind have compiled a countdown of the top five movie bunny boilers of all time.
5. Obsessed (2009)
New office temp, Lisa Sheridan is obsessed with her boss, the happily married Derek Charles. After several failed attempts at seduction, she begins to manipulate his marriage. A fake suicide attempt in Derek's hotel room brings Lisa success in splitting the marriage temporarily. After gaining access to Derek’s home, Lisa kidnaps his young son, and removes his wife’s face from all of their family photographs, ultimately meeting her end under a chandelier. Nice.
4. The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992)
Mrs Mott, a seemingly ideal nanny, turns out to be Mary Poppins’ dark, alter ego, as she tries to choke her employer’s baby on an earring (to feign his rescue), breastfeeds him (to wean him off his mother’s own milk) and stirs trouble amongst the family members. Things get a little Home Alone-esque, as Mrs Mott ups her game, booby-trapping the family greenhouse and vandalising her employer’s inhalers, in an attempt to finish her off. The film ultimately reaches a bloody-climax.
3. Single White Female (1992)
‘Allie’ invites seemingly ideal roomie ‘Hedy’ to move in. Things start to get a little unnerving, when Hedy begins mimicking Allie’s appearance and tosses their beloved puppy out of the window. As it turns out, ‘Hedy is struggling to deal with the loss of her twin, and is looking for a substitute one. Oh, and she kills people when things don’t go her way (with a stiletto in one instance). Remind you of anyone?
2. Misery (1990)
After rescuing author Paul Sheldon from a car wreck, “number one fan” Annie Wilkes, takes him to her remote home to recover. After learning that he’s killed off Misery, the lead character in her favorite series of romantic novels, Annie flies into a rage. As she becomes increasingly unstable, Annie reveals that nobody knows where Paul is, and demands that he pens a new novel, bringing back Misery. Paul’s personal misery reaches its climax when Annie straps him to the bed and smashes his ankles with a sledgehammer, to stop him from trying to escape.
1. Fatal Attraction (1987)
This has to be number one for bunny-boiling status, not least because it’s the origin of the term. Following an affair with Dan Gallagher (played by Michael Douglas), Alex Forrest, won’t take no for an answer. After Dan tells her it’s over, Alex attempts suicide, claims she is pregnant with his child, attacks his wife and, of course, boils the family’s pet rabbit on the stove. Aside from coining the term “bunny boiler”, this film probably made a generation of men (and women) think twice before playing away.
A Number Cloak is quick and easy to set up online, with no lengthy registration process. Users need only provide an email address and their real mobile or landline number, to enable their new, secondary number to be diverted.
Each email address can be registered for ten secondary numbers, any of which can be disconnected within seconds, preventing unwanted callers from getting through.
There is no billing or charge for receiving calls to a Number Cloak; the service is funded entirely by callers, who are charged 50p per minute from a BT landline, but other networks may vary.
Anyone can set up a Number Cloak for free at: www.numbercloak.com
