BUDDING GOLFERS IN DOUBLE HOLE-IN-ONE SENSATION
Who's going to be the next British youngster to win a golfing major? Back in 2004, the father of Rory McIlroy placed a £400 bet on his son to win the Open Championship before he was 25. The odds? 500-1!
Easy money the bookies must have thought. Well, they're probably a little worried now, as the 22 year old, who has just won the US Open by a record score, heads to Kent for that very tournament in July.
Maybe at this very moment, friends and relatives are placing similar bets on 13 year old, Jack Bishop, and Alex Fellows, who's 11.
It follows an amazing achievement at the Patshull Park Junior Club Championships, where there were 2 holes in one on the same day!
The first incredible hole-in-one was achieved by Jack, using a 5 wood, on the 175-yard, 2nd hole. Then playing in the same 3 ball, on the 124-yard 10th hole, Alex also hit a breath-taking hole-in-one, using a 5 iron.
Jack, who represents the Shropshire under 14’s at county level, and Alex, who plays on the pee- wee tour, are both members of Patshull Park.
Duanne Mascord, Junior Organiser, was astonished by this incredible achievement:
“Most golfers go a lifetime without even threatening a hole-in-one. So, for two golfers to achieve this feat, at such a young age, and on the same course, on the same day, in the same group, is amazing really.”
The championship was eventually won by Adam Reade, also a Shropshire under 14 player, who came home 2 shots clear of Jack.
