Blind Golfers swing in to Patshull Park

A Shropshire golf club will be hosting a championship with a difference, when The English Blind Golfers Association visits it next week.

Patshull Park Hotel, Golf and Country Club in Pattingham, is to host the Primary Club English Match Play Championship from 15-17 May. It is the English Blind Golfers Association’s (EGBA) biggest competition of the year and the third consecutive year the association has held the championship at Patshull.

John Prior, Sales and Marketing Manager for the Hotel, said: “We are delighted to welcome back the EBGA for the 2011 matchplay tournament. It is amazing to see these gifted golfers and their guides plot their way around our parkland layout at close quarters. They are an example to golfers everywhere of how we should enjoy and embrace the game and we are proud to host their tournament.”

Twenty-two golfers and their sighters, will be taking part in the competition, which will take a match-play format.

Last year’s tournament was won by Steve Beevers from Hoylake, assisted by his guide John Porter. Steve was delighted with his success and admitted that he did not expect to win any of the matches that got him to the final, let alone the whole thing.

Jay Cookson, organiser the event, said: “The EBGA is looking forward to returning to Patshull for the 2011 English Blind Golf Matchplay, especially as we are always made so welcome there. The EBGA has been coming to Patshull for nearly 20 years and this demonstrates how much we always look forward to coming back.”
