Birmingham-based Selco raises £22,000 for NSPCC's A Child's Voice Appeal
Builder’s Merchant Selco, has raised a further £14k to total £22,000 made from Selco’s nationwide efforts over the last 24 months for the NSPCC’s A Child’s Voice Appeal.
The cheque was presented to the charity at the Stirchley branch on Charlotte Road, after customers, staff, suppliers and corporate contributions raised vital funds for the NSPCC’s cause to enable more children to reach the ChildLine support line.
The NSPCC launched the Children's Voice Appeal in September 2008 to expand ChildLine by recruiting more volunteers to answer calls from children and to develop online counselling and text services to allow children to access support. The appeal also aims to expand the NSPCC Helpline for adults with a concern about a child.
The money was raised through a host of initiatives and implemented by staff, including corporate e-cards, pin badges, Santa letters and raffles.
Selco’s Managing Director, Malcolm Aldridge, who is based at the head office in King’s Norton said: “As part of the Children's Voice Appeal, fundraisers in Birmingham need to raise £4.2 million over the next three years. We think this is a very important cause that affects millions of children.
“Our staff have been very committed to helping the charity and I am proud that their efforts have raised so much. I think raising in excess of £22,000 is something to be proud of. We shall continue our efforts and hope that more children get the advice and support they need as a result of our fundraising,” he said.
Richard Shawcross of the NSPCC said: "We’re so grateful to all the staff at Selco for their generosity and support to making a real difference to the lives of vulnerable and abused children.
"As 85 per cent of the NSPCC's income comes from voluntary donations and fundraising, none of the services and projects would be possible without the continued generosity of the public." he added.
