Beauty and the Botox Beasts – Local Specialist Warns ‘Avoid the Cowboys’
A local cosmetic practitioner is warning people in South Wales who fancy holding back the years with injections of Botox, to use a registered provider, or risk causing lasting damage to their skin.
David Woodsford BDS from Greenfield Dental Care practice in Dinas Powys, issues the warning after a BBC documentary recently revealed that there is currently no obligation for anyone performing Botox injections, to have any type of training.
'Botox Britain', shown on BBC3 last Thursday, examined the growing popularity of Botox treatments in the UK.
Favoured by many celebrities, Botox is one of the most popular non-surgical treatments used for reducing lines and wrinkles. It works by temporarily preventing those muscle contractions that cause the lines and furrows.
“What many people may be shocked to learn, is that you don’t currently need any registered training to be able to administer Botox,” said David Woodsford BDS.
“The BBC documentary really highlights the need for users to ensure that they only receive treatments from a registered person. So do your research, as the last thing you should risk is your health.”
The concerned practitioner continued: “As a practice, we understand the importance of registration, as well as the proper use and administration of Botox and dermal fillers. We have invested fully in this to provide existing and potential patients with peace of mind.
“Treatments are carried out in a medical setting, ensuring strict infection control and complete confidentiality. Patients receiving treatment with injectable cosmetics receive an initial lower dose with a 'top up' if needed at a subsequent review appointment two weeks later, to ensure that the right results are achieved.”
Botox patient Victoria, 32, a dentist from Cardiff said: “I have been having treatment with Botox for the last couple of years. I am happy to reassure anyone considering this type of treatment, that it is completely safe if it is administered by a registered professional, in the right setting.
“I take pride in my appearance and I am dedicated to keeping fit and leading a healthy lifestyle. I consider having Botox to be part of my regime like going to the gym, putting on make-up or having my hair done. It makes me feel good and look good.”
David Woodsford is currently the only independent practitioner in Wales registered with the Independent Healthcare Advisory Service (IHAS) to provide injectable cosmetics. IHAS operate the 'Treatments You Can Trust' website, so that patients can select a quality assured practitioner.
