AUTHOR CAUSES A CARNIVAL OF CONTROVERSY

Distinguished academic, Dr. Vernon Anley, has caused immediate impact with the release of his controversial new books.

Although not another holocaust story, his recently launched best-seller, ‘A Carnival of Lies’, gives the most detailed description of life in Dachau and Auschwitz to be found in any novel. So intimate are the details, that some critics have described the book as a thinly disguised survivor’s story.

Anley comments on the novel: "One of the more pervasive myths of our era is the absolute authority given to first-person testimony of survivors of concentration camps. Since the generation of survivors will soon die out, to believe that only those who were actually caught in the Shoa should represent it, risks consigning events to a kind of oblivion interrupted only by the recitation of voices from an increasingly distant past."

But it is Anley’s second novel which has caused the most controversy, 'An Unholy Love' has dismayed conservative Christians because of the demythologization of Christ and the resurrection, whilst others have praised the book for speaking about the death of Christ in a way that engages with modern perceptions.

Educated in Australia and England, Anley worked for the Ministry of Overseas Development in the West Indies before taking up academic posts in Saudi Arabia and the Far East.
