Arrow helps shoot Vaughan towards business success
Although the economic outlook is still bleak, one local man has managed to overcome the obstacle of redundancy by starting a successful print company with help from a new business loan scheme.
Vaughan Winters was made redundant after 37 years of working in the screen print and supply sector in sales and production roles. Despite the shock of suddenly finding himself out of work, Vaughan made the brave decision to go it alone after accessing a £10,000 loan through the ‘Arrow – Small Business Finance Scheme’, a new loan scheme that is funded by Advantage West Midlands, the European Regional Development Scheme and Birmingham City Council, and is also supported by Lloyds TSB and the Chamber of Commerce. Arrow operates on a not for profit basis and is all about providing opportunities to those with sound and viable business propositions.
“Being made redundant was a nasty shock but I was determined to get back on my feet as soon as possible,” says Vaughan, “I knew that I had the necessary experience and drive to succeed in running my own business but what I didn’t have was the money! When I found out that I would be able to get a loan through Arrow I was over the moon and now I’m up and running; I’m looking forward to operating a successful and profitable business and creating job opportunities for others in the region.”
“We are delighted that Arrow has been instrumental in providing Vaughan with the opportunity to start-up his own business,” says Alison Bradley, Managing Director of Arrow. “When he came to us, we could immediately see that he had a massive amount of experience in the screen printing sector, which will stand him in good stead in the future. We are keen to see all the businesses that we lend to succeed and hope that many more local people will be able to follow in Vaughan’s footsteps.”
