A REMIX FIRST FROM THE FUNKTUARY
They could easily do it themselves. They could pick up the phone and get any of the world’s top DJs and producers to do it. Instead, in a first for the industry, leading British dance duo The Funktuary are inviting music fans to remix their entire new album BEFORE it’s even released.
THE BIG NEWS BIT
“Remixes are a big part of the music scene and interaction between the band and the listeners is where the industry’s heading,” says Andreas Jensen.
Along with established collaborator Joe Killington, Andreas was behind The Funktuary Radio Remix of Armand Van Helden’s ‘My, My, My’ that turned it into an international hit for a second time and made it Radio One’s second most played track in 2006.
Having sealed their reputation as remixers, the duo are now launching The Funktuary as a recording and live project with eagerly awaited debut album ‘My, My, My’.
A genre jumping cocktail of synth-pop, electro, soul, blues, reggae, and balearic house, it’s released on February 15 on the new Nuxx label.
"Joe has a short attention span so he'll sing a great pop hook one minute and a reggae lick the next,” says Jensen. “I take the best of his bits, add my own, and turn them into fully formed songs, and now we’ve turned the songs into a cohesive album.”
As well as huge tunes like the title track, ‘House On The Hill’ and ‘Sister Stand Up’, it includes the singles ‘Wip Electric’ and ‘Set the Sun Alight’, both of which have had serious DJ support with airplay from Annie Mac and Kiss FM's Sinden and Loose Cannons.
However, The Funktuary have made the acappella vocals for all 11 tracks available to download NOW, so listeners can make their own remixes. The best of them will then become the official remix album.
Joined by Paul Tarry on electronic drums, The Funktuary will be playing live shows to coincide with the album release. Jensen promises they’ll be something special.
"Our live sound is electronic with an organic kick, lots of vocals and drumming - quite an intense experience. We give it everything we’ve got. Basically it’s one big party!”
THE BIOG BIT
Serious, fun, and serious fun, The Funktuary are Danish born guitar/bassist and vocalist Andreas Jensen and East Ender vocalist Joe Killington.
A veteran of indie bands in his native Denmark from the age of 13, Bowie fan Andreas Jensen relocated to Britain and joined indie outfit Dweeb before making his name as a writer, producer and remixer. In 2004, as part of the Wise Buddah roster, he was jointly responsible for the radio mix of Truly by Delerium featuring Nerina Pallot which became a UK Club Chart No 1. In 2007 he remixed Dave Matthews Band hit Crash Into Me and he has also written/produced/remixed songs for The King Blues, Rollo, Nate James, Vybz Kartel and Holly James. Andreas also wrote the song "So High" which featured on Kevin Lyttle's internationally released debut album selling in the excess of 500.000 copies
A fixture in the East London garage and funky house scene, from his early teens Joe Killington has written pop songs with Graham Lyle (Gallagher/Lyle), Mike Rutherford (Genesis) and Phil Pickett (Culture Club) while MCing every weekend on London pirate stations and in clubs.
